Shortlisting present to me

.
As anyone who knows me will tell you, I have a... let's call it a penchant... for amber. When I sold my first ever short story I commemorated my achievement with a pair of amber earrings that I'd been lusting over (for months) in PastTimes. They cost £20 and it was the first time I'd ever paid more than £3.99 for a pair of earrings in my life.

It, um, set a trend.

Every time I have a writing milestone, I now treat myself to something special in amber. Each of those special pieces (as opposed to all the ordinary, normal, gorgeous amber earrings I've acquired since that first pair) remind me that now and again I am a success.

And this is what I've bought to celebrate being shortlisted for the RNA Love Story of the Year 2010 with Fair Deception. Isn't it just the most beautiful thing? I think I'm in love.

It's beautiful Jan - and thoroughly deserved. A special nomination should be marked by a very special somehing.

I'm with you on the amber thing - I have a glorious amber bracelet that was my special something for my 50th book. We must
compare 'beauties' some day!
Enjoy

What a wonderful idea. I love amber, although I've only gazed at it through jewellers' windows.

I love your necklace, it's so pretty.

That's gorgeous Jan, and what a wonderful idea. Like Debs, I've only gazed at it through windows. Hm, perhaps I should treat myself...

Gorgeous, Jan, and thoroughly well deserved :) I hope you'll be wearing it next month at the lunch?

It's lovely; I hope you win (well, naturally I hope THAT!) so you can glitter away for the cameras.

Amber doesn't suit me so it's garnets for me; bought a Victorian garnet brooch when Murder Most Welcome was accepted.

Thanks all. Don't feel nearly so profligate now.

And yes, of COURSE I'll be wearing it to the Lunch!

(Victorian garnet brooch sounds very classy, Nicky)

(Glorious amber bracelet sounds heavenly, Kate W!)

Ooh that's pretty! And I love the idea of buying yourself something to commemorate each book.

I do have a silver pendant that was a prize for an RWA contest a few years back: it makes me smile!
